EGYPT…A LAND RICH WITH HISTORY AND DIVERSITY
Back in school, history class was usually boring. Not because of the subject matter, but because of the setting. Listening to some lackluster professor go on and on about past civilizations inside a classroom is like reading a book about rollercoasters. It’s just not the same. History, like rollercoasters, can be exciting, gripping and even exhilarating to all types of people.
It was truly an awesome experience for me to visit these great historic sites, standing amid the rocks and the legends, exactly where kings and emperors stood thousands of years ago. It made history’s greatest scenes come to life, it was an educating and unique experience
In the fifth century B.C. the great historian Herodotus wrote of Egypt that “nowhere are there so many marvelous things of unspeakable greatness.” Twenty-three centuries later during an invasion in 1798, Napoleon commanded, “Soldiers! From the top of these Pyramids, 40 century
I have discoverd the best historic sites, check out my suggestions
Most people who think of Egypt think of antiquities, but Egypt offers much more. Certainly it is a prime location to see our great heritage from the ancient world, including Pyramids and wonderful temples, but it is also part of the Holy Land. My visits to the Christian and other religious monuments brought the bible to life.
Egypt also offers nature and desert treks, great scuba diving and even golf, fishing and birding expeditions. I, however chose to relax on the wondrous Egypt Red Sea and Sinai coast. I took in the high culture of Cairo and took leisurely float down the Egyptian Nile on a luxurious river boat
The allure and magic of Egypt has changed little throughout the centuries. The Sphinx, the Nile, ancient Luxor and the Pyramids of Giza are just a glimpse of Egypt’s glorious and historical scope. To witness these behemoths with your own eyes is a treat beyond compare.
Contrary to the popular belief, only the Great Pyramid of Khufu (or Cheops), not all three of Giza’s Great Pyramids, is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Wanting to go out in style, the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu ordered the monument built around 2560 B.C. to serve as his tomb. When built, the Great Pyramid was 481 feet high, and even though it has lost nearly 30 feet from off its top over time, it still ranked as the tallest structure on Earth for more than 43 centuries, only to be surpassed in height in the nineteenth century. What a sight to behold….The pictures we shot of me in front of the Great Pyramids is a treasure.
Today the Great Pyramid is enclosed, together with the other pyramids and the Sphinx, in the Giza Plateau, along with the museum housing the mysterious Sun Boat, which was most likely used to carry the body of Khufu in his last journey on earth before being buried inside the pyramid. It may also serve him as a means of transportation in his afterlife journey, according to ancient Egyptian beliefs.
There is another even more ancient Egypt that is known to very few people. I always try to visit the less traveled roads. The Fayoum area contains some of the best preserved paleontological sites in the world one of which is Wadi Hitan or the Valley of Whales. This is a remote valley in the Western Desert of Egypt. At 150 kilometers southwest of Cairo, the valley is located near the Al-Katrani mountain range, a well known and valuable geological site for its rare vertebrate fossils and mega-fossils.It was well worth the visit
The Valley of Whales, also known as Zeuglodon Valley, lies within the boundaries of the Wadi El-Rayan Protected Area (WRPA), about eighty kilometers from Fayoum City. WRPA was created in 1989, and lies in the vicinity of a series of natural hot springs and two lakes created in the 1970s from excess agricultural water channeled from the nearby Lake Karun (Qarun).
What ever your desire might be…history…nature….adventure….you are sure to find it in Egypt.
